Understand bicycle service costs before booking.
Compare common workshop services, typical labour estimates, minimum booking guidance, optional upgrades, and tasks that may require a separate assessment. The final price depends on bicycle condition, component compatibility, replacement parts, and the work needed to restore safe performance.
Service type / labour guide / estimated time / optional work / exclusions
Estimates are provided as general planning guidance rather than guaranteed quotations. Final labour time and parts costs depend on inspection findings, bicycle design, wear, component availability, and the complexity of the requested work. Confirm the scope and estimate before authorising additional repairs.
| Service type | Labour guide | Estimated time | Common add-ons | Not included by default |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic safety inspection | From $25 | 30–45 minutes | Tyre pressure adjustment, bolt check, chain condition review | Replacement parts, major repairs, structural damage assessment |
| General tune-up | From $65 | 1–2 hours | Gear indexing, brake adjustment, drivetrain cleaning | New drivetrain components, hydraulic system overhaul, wheel rebuild |
| Drivetrain service | Scoped after inspection | 45 minutes and up | Chain replacement, cassette installation, derailleur adjustment | Unavailable components, extensive damage, full drivetrain conversion |
| Wheel and brake repair | Scoped by component condition | 1 hour and up | Wheel truing, brake pad replacement, rotor alignment | Complete wheel rebuild, major hydraulic repairs, damaged frame replacement |
Replacement parts
Tell the workshop about any components you already own and provide their brand, model, dimensions, or compatibility details when possible. Parts may need to match your bicycle's drivetrain, brake type, wheel standard, frame mounts, and manufacturer specifications. Component costs are separate unless the estimate explicitly states otherwise.
Appointment changes
Contact the workshop as early as possible if you need to reschedule. Include your original appointment details, the requested service, and a preferred alternative time. Advance notice helps coordinate technician availability, inspection time, and any parts reserved for your repair.
Bicycle condition
Mention unusual noises, loose components, worn tyres, brake problems, shifting issues, corrosion, crash damage, or signs of previous repairs. Electric bicycles and specialist models may require compatible diagnostic equipment or specific parts. If a safety-critical fault is suspected, do not ride the bicycle until it has been inspected.
